Ever have one of THOSE days?
Sometimes stuff just doesn’t work out.
Sometimes it’s just hard.
It can be EXTERNAL circumstances that seem all awry or sometimes just our INTERNAL way of coping that’s not working.
Maybe you’re hungry, tired, stressed, sick or anxious and you just can’t seem to cope well with plain ol’ normal stuff.
Other times it’s just a bunch of tiny, little things:
-you need a root canal
-you miss a big deadline
-you get a door-ding in the parking lot
-the dog throws up on the rug
-you’re running late, but you’re out of gas
-you lose your keys
Do you know that God cares for us even in the tiniest details of our lives? In fact, He sees everything clearly and plainly. The Bible says “He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head!” Matthew 10:30 Message paraphrase
God cares! We have tricked ourselves into compartmentalizing our lives. As if we should “get over” our “bad day” stuff before we can be spiritual or something. Our great privilege is to be able to carry ALL these circumstances to the Cross.
Not to list them in ritualistic prayers asking God to fix everything.
Neither to simply lay them at the foot of the cross in order to “feel better” about life.
But bringing these circumstances to Him as PART OF OUR EXPERIENCE. In being honest about the real-life STUFF, even in our relationship with God, we stay humble (It’s not about us) and we put life into perspective.
When you think about all the stuff that bugs us and adds up to a “bad day,” you can’t compare it to Christ’s suffering.
You see, everything we experience here on earth: joy, pain, triumph, tragedy, disappointment, annoyances… All of these things PALE in comparison to the glory and suffering of our Savior. In fact, they are merely “light afflictions” that serve to help us.
If you’re having a bad day, hang in there! The little things can simply be a reminder that this life is temporary. It pales in comparison to the glory of the Cross and in the light of our FUTURE.
The Bible says: “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” 2 Corinthians 4:17 NLT
